Nigel Wheatley is the author of this website, the author of six 'Where to watch' books (see below), and a freelance writer specializing in birds, other wildlife, travel and conservation. Recent articles by him can be seen in his '5 trips to take right now' feature in the monthly Wild Travel magazine, available in newsagents and via subscription (click on the cover, right). A few of these articles are linked below as pdfs.

Nigel has travelled the world, visiting all seven continents, some several times, and although he prefers to be in the field, preferably on a 'Wheatley's Waste Not Want Not Tour', he also loves writing, especially about travelling in search of wild places and the wildlife which completes them, and in his writing he hopes to help readers realize they too can enjoy such experiences, often surprisingly easily. Nigel also firmly believes that the more people that visit the Earth's remaining wild places the more chance these places have of being conserved, not only for future generations to enjoy, but for the wildlife they support. We live in a beautiful world. Long may it be so.

‘Just like British birding, the temptation to ‘follow the news’ when going global is all too great ... How about taking on an extreme rarity-finding challenge? ... The first steps are easy: throw away the Lonely Planet, and Wheatley for that matter ...’
